Let’s Get Together with
People & Company
If you take away one thing from this podcast, we hope it’s this: don’t fixate on what to ask from people; instead, focus on what you can do with them.
- People & Company
Building a community is fast becoming one of the best and most defensible paths to creating a business. Imitators can duplicate products and services, but it's another matter to foster a meaningful, engaged community.
More importantly, community might be THE key to tackling today's massive challenges and ushering in a new dawn of societal change.
The superb, vibrant podcast The Get Together by People & Company has become so interesting and valuable to me, that I joined their Listeners Club!
If you are involved in creating communities, or would like to be, below are notes for some episodes that really spoke to me.
Theme: Community
🍵 Tea With Strangers, Social Courage
& Ankit Shah
What a strong community does is it creates a deep sense of belonging and connectedness amongst the people who are in it.
- Ankit Shah
Ankit might be the most humane, inspiring interview I've heard on The Get Together.
He started Tea with Strangers in 2014, bringing 50K folks in 25 cities together. He has served community-first roles at Facebook and Airbnb, and created Silent Hike Society.
Ivan Cash Connects Strangers Through Art 🎨
I think that there's just some stubborn part of me that wants benevolence towards strangers to be more accepted and widespread. That's my underlying mission.
- Ivan Cash
Invigorating interview with Ivan Cash, a highly-acclaimed interactive artist and filmmaker whose amazing body of work explores connections between strangers.
Crucial creative perspective to help us understand what we share in common is so much stronger than what keeps us apart.
Ritual, Making the Invisible Visible
Ritual makes things real
- Casper ter Kuile
Elegantly powerful words from the author of The Power of Ritual and founder of the massive Harry Potter and the Sacred Text reading community.
After hearing Casper, I started thinking of the role ritual can play in these quarantine days. I also go deeper into it in a mini-podcast episode that drafts of his terrific interview, both after the jump.
This is a fascinating and important subject. If you ever want to chat community, give me a shout!
